We tried to make DIY balloons with 3D printed or laser cut objects.
We printed plastic geometrical shapes on the maker bot as well as
assembling a 3D head out of laser cut shapes (using Autodesk's 123D
Make). We covered these "balloon moulds" in liquid latex and then
baked them in a make-shift oven constructed from mylar covered wine
box and some incandescent lights. After the latex dries, it can be
peeled off and inflated. We hoped that the balloon would retain the
shape of the original 3D printed objects and yield shapes not
otherwise possible through traditional manufacturing techniques.
